New Jersey's first public high school for recovering addicts will open in September. The new school will occupy parts of Kean University in Union.
New Jersey drug officials have said the purpose of the school is to keep at-risk youth leaving treatment away from the same hallways where many began taking drugs.
According to the just-released Task Force report (known as the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Report 2014), up to 85 percent of New Jersey high school students who complete drug treatment programs relapse when they return to their regular schools.
Similar schools could open throughout the state if the the first is successful.
