The family of overdose victim Justin Thouret will be commemorating the life of their son by reaching out to those who share similar struggles. Claude and Marianne Thouret recently shared a little backstory about their upcoming event, Guitars, Drums and Angels.
"Recently, we suffered the loss of our son, Justin Thouret, to an accidental heroin overdose. He was 31 years old.
Rather than retreat into our own pain, our family has chosen to commemorate Justin's life by reaching out to those with similar struggles. Justin suffered with a serious anxiety disorder and began using opiates as a way to self-medicate. We seek to help others understand the connection between substance abuse and mental illness and encourage families/individuals to seek the support they need and deserve.
With that goal in mind, we are holding a benefit concert on Sunday May 1st at the Strand Theater in Lakewood, New Jersey. We hope to raise awareness and compassion for those struggling with mental health and substance abuse challenges.
The concert will be a full afternoon of great music, featuring 8 bands, as well as video PSAs (between sets) for mental health/substance abuse. Additionally, we will have information tables in the theater lobby for various support agencies."
Held in the memory of: Justin Thouret
