Life Transitions Education [250 words keywords: life transitions]

Change is inevitable in life. Events such as a new baby at home, graduating high school,a or the change from experiencing a life of addiction into a life filled with healthy, worthwhile, experiences are all examples of changes in life that are significant. Learning to handle these with an attitude with the least impact possible to one’s established routines is referred to as life transition education. Skills that help us cope or adapt to changes in life, are not new, and whilst a person can meet these changes in life in a healthy manner as others have done before us, there are individuals who experience stress, anxiety, depression and other negative emotions. Life transition education helps these individuals understand, accept, and move forward without falling captive to these negative emotions, or seeking the temporary numbness of drugs or alcohol.

Everything we experience today is something that others before us, have also experienced. From their experiences, we learn to distinguish the healthier attitudes toward the inevitability of change. We will all experience the change that comes when we move from childhood into adulthood. At The Counseling Center, life transition education involves working with an individual to smooth the way he or she handles these change. It is a natural part of life to experience changes that we don’t want, and to which we react with grief, or even depression, but it is not natural for these emotions to linger indefinitely. Life transitions are part of life, and learning how adapt to change in a healthy way is the goal of life transitions education
