Praesum Healthcare Provides Effective Strategies for Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Support- “Changing the narrative on suicide”

September 10th marks a significant time for Praesum Healthcare and the millions of individuals and families affected by mental health disorders. National Recovery Month, observed every September, celebrates the resilience of those in recovery, raises awareness about mental health disorders, and highlights the benefits of treatment services and success in recovery, but 09/10 within that Month marks a special day of remembrance. Each suicide has far-reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences, and the loss of a soul in that way deeply affects individuals and communities worldwide.

Praesum Healthcare, a network of mental health and substance use disorder treatment facilities in six states, today also remembers with its full attentionWorld Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD). The idea behind WSPD twenty-one years ago was initiated by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) forging partnerships across the globe, to raise awareness of suicide prevention suicide prevention, mental health support, preventing suicide.

The 10th September each year aims to focus attention on the issue, to reduce stigma and raises awareness among organizations, governments, and the public, delivering a direct message that suicides are preventable, and exploring the reasons one might feel suicidal in the first place with a continuing impetus to prevent suicide in all its forms.

This year’s theme resonates across our continuum of mental health support- “Changing the narrative on suicide” is the triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2025

The Counseling Center (TCC), in particular, is fully committed to "Changing the Narrative on Suicide" with the call to action to "Start the Conversation". Remember that seeking professional help is essential, and together, we can contribute to a world where mental well-being is a top priority.

This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides. Changing the narrative on suicide is about transforming how we perceive this complicated modern issue and shifting from that ingrained culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support.

Suicide is a major public health challenge internationally, not only in the United States According to the World Health Organization, suicide is a global public health issue, and nearly 700,000 people die due to suicide every year. This month supplies an opportunity to shed light on mental health struggles and emphasizes the significance of offering support to those in need of support.

The call to action encourages everyone to start the conversation on suicide and suicide prevention. Every conversation, no matter how seemingly trivial at the time, contributes to a supportive and understanding society. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of support.

This theme also emphasizes the need to prioritize suicide prevention and mental health in policy making, calling for government action. Changing the narrative requires advocating for policies that prioritize mental health, increase access to care, and provide help for those in need.

Proactive Intervention in Behavioral Healthcare

In the behavioral healthcare orbit, where patient safety and well-being are paramount, September holds special significance. It is a time to reflect on the importance of preventing self-harm and promoting mental health in all its dimensions. The Counseling Center (TCC) prides itself on adopting innovative solutions, all of which enhance patient safety and provide staff with the tools they need for proactive intervention on those vulnerable to suicidal thoughts.
By destigmatizing mental health, recognizing warning signs, fostering open communication, and offering compassionate support, we can play a significant role in preventing suicide and providing relief to those struggling with severe depression.
