Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a successful treatment used in psychology where negative thought patterns are identified and addressed along with the emotional and behavioral responses associated with them, with the objective to change these thoughts. Cognition is the process by which humans learn to understand the world through experiences and thoughts. Most individuals grow up in an environment where others appreciate, love, and understand them, and their foundation for personal growth is strong in confidence, self-esteem, and trust. This is not always the case. When an individual’s foundation for understanding, is altered in a negative way, people, many from a young age, will adapt their thoughts and behaviors upon this incorrect foundation. This can lead to feeling alienated and misunderstood, and finding refuge or support in acceptable environments that are often inclusive of criminal activities, drugs, and other harmful practices. The Counseling Center offers cognitive behavioral therapy treatment focused on identifying and changing negative thought patterns to help individuals deal not just with external stressors that threaten recovery, but a range of issues that also form a part of the treatment for anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders. Our cognitive behavioral therapy is open to anyone who wishes to reduce stress in their lives, improve their personal relationships, or live a more rewarding and fulfilling life. The techniques taught in The Counseling Center’s cognitive behavioral therapy treatment serves our clients long after they complete their initial detox and rehabilitation, by establishing a new foundation of positive thoughts and the beneficial behavior that results from them.
